The Story

Acious Media partnered with Mazingira Yetu to document their ‘Taka ni Pato’ initiative, a community garbage clean-up program in Kibera Slums. The initiative, whose name translates to ‘Waste is Wealth,’ aimed to educate community members on maintaining a clean environment and transforming waste into valuable resources.

Our team captured the entire cleanup process, from the collection of garbage to the sorting and recycling of materials. Through powerful imagery, we documented the dedication of community members, the challenges they faced, and the innovative solutions they implemented. The photos not only showcased the impact of the initiative but also highlighted the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation.

Guided by Mazingira Yetu’s mission to embrace innovation and a human-centered approach, we ensured that our visuals reflected the organization’s commitment to empowering communities and foster sustainable practices.

The photos from the ‘Taka ni Pato’ initiative were used by Mazingira Yetu for awareness campaigns, fundraising efforts, and community engagement. By documenting the clean-up, Acious Media helped amplify the organization’s message and inspire other communities to adopt similar practices. The initiative not only improved the cleanliness of Kibera Slums but also empowered residents to see waste as a resource, creating opportunities for income generation and environmental sustainability.
